FAQs – Paint

Is there a changing area?

No dedicated changing rooms here, folks, but don’t fret! You won’t be stripping down to your undies. Our coveralls are designed to go right over your clothes, so you’ll be ready to get messy in a flash!

What should I wear?

We highly recommend rocking light, comfy clothes and a pair of old shoes you don’t mind getting splattered. Even though our paint is water-based, it can be a bit stubborn and leave a mark. But don’t you worry, we’ve got your back (and front, and eyes!) with full (head to feet) coveralls and goggles provided.

What protective gear is provided?

You’ll be rocking our stylish hooded & footed coveralls (perfect for blending in, or standing out!), plus goggles to keep your peepers safe from rogue splatters.

For the little ones, we might even have some ponchos if they’re feeling extra adventurous (or just extra messy!). Get ready to get goofy and colorful!

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Our studio is wheelchair accessible, and we’ve confirmed you’re all set to create a masterpiece!  We also have some large garbage bags, so we can try to protect your wheelchair, but no promises.  We will give you a poncho instead of a coverall.

What is the food/drink policy?

While our splatter room is a no-snack zone (unless you want your food/drink to become part of the art!), we’ve got tables where you can refuel before or after your creative explosion.   We are BYOB, but you have to be at least 21 if you want to consume alcohol. We have a ton of local take-out eateries’ menus from the area of which some will deliver. Keep in mind length of your rental time and length of food prep time.

Are coolers or ice chests allowed inside?

While we’d love to roll out the red carpet for all your personal belongings, our seating areas are more “cozy” than “cavernous.” So, to keep our space a trip-hazard-free zone (and avoid any accidental paint-or-axe-related incidents with your stuff), we have a simple rule:

If it fits neatly under or on top of your table, feel free to keep it close. Otherwise, we kindly ask you to tuck it away in your vehicle. Think of it as a mini-vacation for your oversized bags and extra gear!

What kind of paints are used?

Non-toxic, water-based paints that meet safety standards and they are free from common allergens.

Are we allowed to bring a pet?

We love furry friends as much as the next person, but when it comes to our facility, we’ve got to stick to the rules! So, only legitimate service dogs are allowed inside.

In the great state of Pennsylvania, they take “service dog” very seriously. Seriously enough that if you try to pass off Fido as a helper animal when he’s really just looking for treats and belly rubs, you could be in a bit of a pickle. We’re talking about “Service Dog Fraud,” which is a real thing and comes with real legal consequences (a third-degree misdemeanor, to be exact!).

So, to keep everyone happy and out of legal trouble, please ensure your four-legged companion is a certified service dog. No “emotional support” goldfish, please!

Should I just walk-in OR make a reservation?

You can never go wrong with reservations since we do offer a generous refund policy. Please see the CANCELLATION page for further details on cancellations and possible refunds.

Weekend evenings we often are near capacity or at capacity, so we suggest you check online or contact us and we can reserve a space for you.

If you do like to live dangerously and just show up, our staff has the ability to book on demand. The least amount of time one can book for is one hour. For example you walk in at 1:22PM and if space is available from 1:30PM – 2:30PM then we can book you. If there is someone booked for 2:15PM then unfortunately we won’t be able to accommodate you for that time.

What is the cost to throw and what type of payments do you accept?

We offer various types of packages and price breakdown.  Keep in mind that the more you bring the cheaper a Lane, Stall or Private Room becomes.  Discounts will exist if you stay longer than 1 hour or come on off peak days/hours with a group of 31 or more.  Please see PRICING for further details.

For online payment we accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

For in person payment we accept all the above and cash.

How far out can a make reservations?

You are able to book until the end of the year, we are able to book any time we want. If you have a need to make reservations further out then please drop us a note. Please see CANCELLATION for further details on cancellations and possible refunds.

I have no interest in throwing, but I do want to come and watch; is that possible?

Is that not only possible, we encourage it, but all spectators will need to sit in the lounge area and that does have an additional cost. The thing is we know you are gonna wanna try it so why watch when you can throw.

Can I change my booking?

Once booked you would need to call to have us rebook your reservation or make any other changes such as qty of guests or type of booking.

I didnt see any place to sign a waiver, what is one to do?

If the reservation was done online there is a place for which the booker could have sent an email with a link for you to sign the waiver. We love our trees and rather not waste them on paper, so we only want your John Hancock electronically, so here it is; WAIVER.

I'm having second or even third thoughts, can I cancel?

We have a whole section on this topic, please see CANCELLATION for further details on cancellations and possible refunds.

How firm are you on your hours, can I get something outside the regular?

Trick question. If it is for the Private Event Space please call/email us else you are out of luck.  There is no additional charge for this.

Do you have Gift Certificates?

You betcha and it has its own pop up; GIFT CERTIFICATES.  You can also get to this from HOME as well.

What if I want to add more time after finding out how much fun we are having?

We can always add more time if we have the room. We offer 60, 90 and 120 rentals, but we can increase your time by extended it to the next increment, so don’t think about asking for just another 15 minutes.

We want to have a surprise party, how do we make that happen?

That is so nice you asked us; this should help.  We have a large parking lot behind the building, so have your guest park there instead of the side lot.  Have your guests arrive 20 minutes before your reservation time and have your guest of honor arrive 15 minutes after your reservation time.

How long is a session?

You’ can book 60, 90 and 120 minute session, which includes the highly anticipated “suiting up” phase and the slightly less anticipated “changing back into your normal clothes” phase. We suggest getting here 10-15 minutes early, unless you’re one of those people who can change outfits in under 30 seconds. We’re not judging, just impressed.

What is the age range/are children allowed?

If you’ve celebrated at least five birthdays but haven’t hit the big one-hundred-and-one yet, you’re in! Curious about what that means for your specific age bracket? Head over to GUIDLINES – PAINT.

What time should I arrive for my reservations?

You read our minds, yes please plan to ARRIVE 15-20 MINUTES EARLY! We need you to have all your T’s dotted and I’s crossed and that will take a few minutes. We also want everyone who is participating to be here when we go over the rules and guidelines. We will take you to your Lane/Stall/Private Room promptly at your reservation time which means anyone who is not here at the time will miss out.

What is the age limit to attend and/or throw?

As much as we want our venue to be family friendly, we want it to also be safe and enjoyable. Children at least 12 years old and having the strength and coordination to safely throw a hatchet, which will be determined by our staff, will be allowed to participate.

All children must be under the immediate control of an adult! There must be 1 adult per 3 kids aged 12 – 14; kids 15 – 17 just need one adult per Lane/Stall.  Anyone under the age of 8 is not allowed in the building unless they are in the Private Room.

How do I not hurt others, but more important myself when throwing?

We have staff the will circulate throughout the floor. If you need some pointers or suggestions, please pull a staff member over and he/she will make you feel in minutes like Paul Bunyan minus Blue (the ox).

I have my own equipment, can I bring?

Yes, but will only allow WATL dimensions for hatchets & axes. If you don’t know what those are then please continue to read.

  1. The blade (or bit) of the axe may be not longer than 4 inches. This is to be measured from tip to tip in a straight line.
  2. No second bits or spikes on the opposite side of the axe head from the forward facing bit of the axe. Decorative blunt objects are allowed but there may not be anything that could be considered sharp. This will be determined by staff.
  3. Handle max length can be between 12in/30.48cm than 19in/48.26cm from the bottom of the handle to the top of the axe head.
  4. Maximum weight of an axe total is 3 lbs/1.36 kg.
Photos, you took them so where are they?

Our Splinters’ Facebook page and Instagram will have them all and organized by date, but can take up to a week for them to be posted. We also will display them on our website for a short time.

If you don’t want them displayed cause you were playing hooky or in the witness protection program, just let us know and we won’t. By default all photos will be posted.

Can I tip the staff?

That is a very nice gesture of you, but is not expected. We take care of our staff so they take care of you. If you still find you just have to lighten your wallet we won’t stop you; I would also appreciate on your way out telling us how we did overall be it good or bad.
